Are the corporations so desperate for higher profits, which caused them to fight for deregulation in the early 1980's, so that they could advertise as much as they wanted, to children under the age of 12, without any limitations?
I find this to be very disturbing, and also sad for the parents, who are now raising their children, with the constant bombardment of products, geared toward them, by using product placement in television programs, and through kid friendly product advertisements, during their favorite TV show.
I would like to add that I was not immune to this. When my kids were growing up, during the 1980's, they were into The Ninja turtles, He-man, and Transformers. Oh, and let's not forget POGs.
I felt the need to write about this because parents now have more advanced technology products to worry about, like for instance, cell phones, which more and more parents are buying for their kids, due to the pressure of keeping up with the other parents.
I am against children under the age of 16 owning cell phones, because there is an on going study in progress, which is connecting cell phones to a deadly brain tumor. Cell phones are a lot worse for children because their brains absorb more radiation than an adult brain absorbs, during the use of the cell phone.
I hope that you will think about this before you make the decision to buy your child a cell phone.
It only takes around 10 years for someone to develop a rare yet deadly brain tumor, which is called Glioma. Gliomas cannot be cured. The prognosis for patients with high-grade gliomas is generally poor, and is especially so for older patients. Of 10,000 Americans diagnosed each year with malignant gliomas, about half are alive 1 year after diagnosis, and 25% after two years. Basically the more heavily a person uses their cell phone, the more likely that person will develop this incurable brain tumor. My question to you is, "Do you want to be responsible for helping to give your child a deadly brain tumor, before they become an adult?" I would hope not.
We need to stand together, and stop these corporations from using our children, as targets for their excessive advertising. I am afraid if this is allowed to continue on the same course, our younger generation will either die a premature death due to constant contact with radiation, or they will eventually turn into non-exercising doughy rolls of flesh, who will never learn how to use their imaginations for a way to amuse themselves, like we did, when we were kids, before technology took over, and there was no need for them to use their own imaginations anymore.
Wake up parents, it is up to you to stop this continuing madness.
